A LITTLE WORD KNOW-HOW
Repeated Letters in Word Games: Counts and Positions
Understand letter counts, positions and the most common repeated-letter mistake.
Count the copies
A rack with one E can make READ if the other letters are present, but it cannot make a word requiring two Es unless a blank supplies the second. A letter being present does not make its count unlimited.
Read a whole feedback row
In a guessing game, a gray copy can coexist with a green or yellow copy of the same letter. The gray copy limits additional occurrences; it does not erase a confirmed occurrence.
Keep notes as constraints
Write down both where a letter can go and how many copies remain possible. A solver that recreates complete feedback is safer than a single “excluded letters” box for this task.
