A LITTLE WORD KNOW-HOW

Why a Word Will Not Fit in Your Puzzle

Fix grid size, direction and crossing constraints without losing your word bank.

Check the simple limit

A word cannot fit in a straight line longer than the grid allows. A twelve-letter word needs enough cells in an allowed direction. Removing diagonal directions can reduce the available options.

Allow room for other words

Even individually short words can compete for the same cells. A generator finding a layout is not proof that it placed every input word. Our report lists placed and omitted words separately.

Try one clear repair

Increase the grid, shorten the bank or allow another direction, then regenerate. Keep the last preview until the new result is accepted. Do not use an old answer key for a newly generated board.
