A LITTLE WORD KNOW-HOW
How to Make a Word Scramble Worksheet
Create useful scramble prompts with a theme, readable layout and separate key.
Pick words with a purpose
Use a topic or vocabulary set so the exercise tests something coherent. Very short words and words with many repeated letters may have few visually different scrambles.
Review the prompts
Check that a scrambled prompt is actually different when a different arrangement is possible. A scramble can have several legitimate anagrams. Add a clue if you need one specific answer rather than any valid rearrangement.
Keep answers separate
Print the student worksheet without the key. Then print the answer page from the same revision. Regenerating can change the prompt order or letter arrangement, so keep the pair together.
